READ 'n' FEED

I am starting a new monthly lunch program called READ ‘n’ FEED.

READ 'n' FEED will be like a lunch book club, but with a twist. Different students will sign up each month to read the featured novel and come in during lunch one day for related activities. READ 'n' FEED will be a book discussion group based around young adult works of fiction, food, and fun! Students will sign up in the media center and have three weeks to read the novel and take a short quiz.

On READ 'n' FEED day, the media center will be decorated to resemble a setting from the book, food from the novel will be served, and the book discussion takes place as a working lunch. We will have an activity such as a guest speaker, a game, a craft to make, etc.

We can take 30 students for each novel. I'll have a waiting list. I want as many students to have a chance at participating as possible, so once they have participated in RNF, they can't sign up for the next two times. I would like to mix students from all three grade levels, so the schedule will probably change between 5th and 6th period depending on which grade level has the most sign up. This means that a few students will miss a class or part of a class, but will need permission first and agree to make up any work.

Our first novel is Flight #116 is Down, by Caroline B. Cooney. Sign-ups start February 16...first 30 to sign up. I'll have a waiting list.

Our second novel is Don't Look Behind You, by Lois Duncan. Signups start March 29...first 30 to sign up. I'll have a waiting list.

Our third novel will be in late May...then we'll resume in September.

I need more facilitators to help with this project! If this sounds like something you are interested in, please stop by, call me, or email me!

More information can be found on flyers posted around the school.
