	The John Newbery Medal The oldest and bset-known children's book award--Awarded annually by the Association for Libraary Services to Children, a division of the American Library Association, to the author of the most distinguished contribution to American Literature for children.

	The Michael L. Printz Award The Michael L. Printz Award is an award for a book that exemplifies literary excellence in young adult literature. The award is sponsored by Booklist, a publication of the American Library Association.

	The Pura Belpré Award The Pura Belpré Award is presented to a Latino/Latina writer and illustrator whose work best portrays, affirms, and celebrates the Latino cultural experience in an outstanding work of literature for children and youth.

	ALA Notable Lists Don’t let the term “children’s” fool you. The books listed at the end for “older readers” are middle school and high school.

	The Margaret A Edwards Award Margaret A. Edwards Award honors a specific author for his or her lifetime contribution to young adult literature. The award is sponsored by School Library Journal.

	The Randolph Caldecott Medal The Caldecott Medal is awarded annually by the Association for Library Service to Children, a division of the American Library Association, to the artist of the most distinguished American picture book for children.

	The Coretta Scott King Award The Coretta Scott King Awards are presented annually by the American Library Association to honor African-American authors and illustrators who create outstanding books for children and young adults.

	Robert F. Sibert Informational Book Medal The Robert F. Sibert Informational Book Award is awarded annually to the author of the most distinguished informational book for children.

	Maryland Black-Eyed Susan Award The Maryland State Reader's Choice Award voted on each year by Maryland children and young adults.

	Alex Awards The Alex Awards are given to ten books written for adults that have special appeal to young adults, ages 12 through 18. The winning titles are selected from the previous year's publishing.
